Equifax CEO Called to Testify Before Congress; Company Under FTC Probe

The House Energy and Commerce Committee sent a letter to Equifax CEO Richard Smith formally requesting testimony before Congress. The cybersecurity breach, which was first discovered on July 29, targeted Equifax, one of three major credit bureaus. According to Equifax, criminals exploited a U.S. website application vulnerability and were able to obtain Social Security numbers, credit card numbers, birth dates, and other personal information of over 143 million consumers.

Equifax is also under investigation by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). “The FTC typically does not comment on ongoing investigations. However, in light of the intense public interest and the potential impact of this matter, I can confirm that FTC staff is investigating the Equifax data breach,” Peter Kaplan, FTC’s spokesman, said in an email statement. The hearing before Congress is expected to take place October 3, 2017.

ClearArmor CSRP

ClearArmor created its CyberSecurity Resource Planning (CSRP) system to streamline the application of the NIST CSF to an organization. Through our patent-pending Momentum Methodology (M2) and Intelligent CyberSecurity Platform (ICSP), organizations can create, adopt, and govern comprehensive, executive-lead CyberSecurity risk management plans. By following our Momentum Methodology, organizations can identify their key business attributes, including their most valuable assets; map these attributes to their internal information technology landscape; and define a business-oriented CyberSecurity risk management plan. The ICSP allows the organization to independently govern the adoption of the risk management plan, including continuously monitoring the configuration and security of key systems. Together, the M2 and ICSP create an end-to-end CSRP system that allows executives to properly visualize and govern their organization’s CyberSecurity.

CyberSecurity through visibility, at the speed of now. That’s ClearArmor.
